New Delhi. To reduce the risk of Kovid-19 infection, New Zealand Cricket on Thursday announced to host the upcoming six matches against the Indian women's team in Queenstown. The Indian women's team is currently in New Zealand and will have to play five ODIs and one T20 match against the host team at the John Davis Oval in Queenstown. The matches will start from February 9.
This bilateral series will be very important for India before the World Cup to be held in March-April. The bilateral series was to begin with a one-off T20I match at McLean Park in Napier first, then two days later the first ODI was to be played at the same venue. The second and third ODIs were to be played at the Saxton Oval in Nelson (on 14 and 16 February) while the last two ODIs were to be played at Queenstown (on 22 and 24 February).
Among other changes to the schedule announced by New Zealand Cricket, South Africa's men's team will remain in Christchurch throughout their tour and play both their Test matches at the Hagley Oval, while the second match was earlier to be played at Wellington. Napier will host Australia's three T20Is against the New Zealand men's team (depending on availability) while the Netherlands men's team will tour Mount Monganui (one T20 and one ODI) and Hamilton (two ODIs).
All matches have been kept on a predetermined date only. The change in destinations has been done with the aim of reducing travel and reducing the risk of the Kovid-19 variant Omicron. New Zealand Cricket's chief executive David White said in a statement, "These measures have been taken to avoid the hotspots of Kovid-19, including reducing travel, reducing change of place to live and working in a safe environment." is included."
