Buddha Purnima is a major festival of believers in Buddhism.  Which is celebrated on the full moon date of Baishakh month according to the Hindu calendar.  Therefore it is also called Baishakh Purnima.  Gautama Buddha was born on the day of Buddha Purnima.  On this day, he received knowledge.  Therefore, the followers of Buddhism celebrate Buddha Purnima with great fanfare all over the world.

The Buddha founded Buddhism after attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.  This is the reason why people of bahujan samaj and Buddhism consider Gautama Buddha to be God and celebrate his birthday with full enthusiasm.

Many types of ceremonies etc. are organized on this day.  Lamps are lit in Buddhist houses on the day of Buddha Purnima.  And houses are decorated with flowers.  On the day of Buddha Purnima, many works like charity, bathing and performing virtue, religious work etc. are done.  On this day, confection, sattu, water vessel, donating clothes and offering ancestors are very virtuous.

What to do on buddha poornima

 - Get up before the sun rises and clean the house.

 - Take a bath with normal water or if possible in the sprinkle Ganga water.

 - In the temple of the house, worship Lord Buddha by lighting a lamp and decorate the house with flowers.

 - Make a swastika with turmeric, roli or kumkum and sprinkle Ganga water at the main entrance of the house.

 - Light a lamp around the Bodhi tree and offer flowers by immersing milk in its roots.

 - Donate food and clothes to the poor.

 - If you have any birds in your house, set them free today.

 - After lighting up, offer water to the rising moon.

- Light the lamp (Diya) at corner of entrance gate of house.

- Student can light a Diya with Mustard Oil or Ghee at study room or study table.

What not to do on the day of Buddha Purnima

 - Do not eat meat on Buddha Purnima day.

 - Do not disturb any kind at home.

 - Do not say profanity to anyone.

 - Avoid lying.

- Don't be sad on that day.

- Don't harm any animals, insects, fly etc.
