Ambedkar Jayanti 2022: Know why we say Jai Bhim?

People who have an emotional connection with Ambedkar say Jaibhim when they meet each other. The original name of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. Jaibhim is not just a word of greeting but today it has become the slogan of the Ambedkar movement. The activists of the Ambedkarite movement call this word the lifeblood of the movement. The journey of how the word greeting and respect became a symbol of revolution is also interesting. How did this slogan arise and how did it spread all over India? The slogan of Jai Bhim was first raised by the activist of the Ambedkar movement, Babu Hardas L. N. was given in 1935.


Babu Hardas was an MLA of Central Provinces Berar Parishad and a committed activist following the ideas of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Babu Hardas was one of the Dalit leaders led by Dr Ambedkar in Maharashtra. It is recorded in Ramchandra Shirsha Sagar's book Dalit Movement in India and Leaders that Babu Hardas first gave the slogan of Jai Bhim. How did the slogan of Jai Bhim come into existence? In response to this question, JV Pawar, the co-founder of Dalit Panther, says that Babu Hardas had formed an organization of workers from the Kamathi and Nagpur regions. He asked the volunteers of this force to greet and respond to each other by saying Namaskar, Ram Ram or Jauhar Maya Baap hai, Jai Bhim.


He had also suggested that the answer to Jaibhim should be called Baal Bheem as Muslims say Valekum Salaam while replying to Salaam Walekum. Pawar has worked with Raja Dhale Naam Deoda Sal and his book on Dalit Panther has also been published. The greeting of Jaibhim started in Ambedkar's life itself. Suresh Ghorpade, a retired judge of the Sessions Court and a scholar of the Dalit movement in Here, points out that Babu Hardas was interested in social work from adolescence. He is known as the originator of Jayabhim. He provided accommodation to students from rural areas. He started night schools for hard-working students. He started teaching English. Writer Narendra Jadhav said that Babasaheb Ambedkar's name was Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. The practice of abbreviating his name was initially common in Maharashtra and gradually it came to be called Jayabhim all over India.



Dr. Jadhav has written a book called Ambedkar Awakening India Social Consciousness. This book eats the scientific character of Ambedkar. Senior journalist and writer Uttam Kamble say that Jaibhim is not just a greeting, it has become a holistic identity. There are different levels of this identity. Jaibhim became a symbol of struggle as a cultural identity as well as a political identity. Along with this, Jaibhim has also become a symbol of the movement. On the other hand, senior journalist Madhu Kamble finds the word Jaibhim a symbol of readiness in the Ambedkar movement. Madhu Kamble said that saying Jaibhim is not just like Namaskar - Namaste. It is not easy but it means that he is closer to Ambedkarite ideology. This word tells me that I am ready to fight wherever there is a need to fight. The slogan of Jai Bhim can be easily heard in Hindi speaking states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also. Ambedkar's ideas are also spread in Punjab. In Uttar Pradesh, young Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad has named his organization as Bhim Army. When the Citizenship Amendment Act ie C.A. A. When there was a demonstration against the Muslim community, the protesters waved the pictures of Dr. Ambedkar. This is an indication that the slogan of Jai Bhim is not limited to any one community and geographical boundaries.
