Mexican Independence Day

Mexicans all throughout the world will commemorate the anniversary of their nation's independence from Spain on September 16. Mexico celebrates the day as a national holiday and hosts fireworks displays and dance performances in addition to reenacting a pivotal moment from the revolution. The celebration of Mexican Independence Day is commonly referred to as "El Grito" after Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest and revolutionary whose words on September 16, 1810, triggered the conflict that won Mexico independence from Spain.

According to Elena Albarrán, associate professor of history and global and intercultural studies at Miami University in Ohio, "Independence celebrates the beginning [of the struggle." In this situation, you should relish the moment of rebellion, opportunity, and optimism.

After a three-year hiatus, the event will take place on Saturday from 3 to 10 p.m. at Rancho Las Flores Park. The event is a family affair because kids are invited to take part in a variety of games and activities.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., Mariachi Coachella and Banda la Reyna del Valle will perform live music. At 7:30 p.m., Grammy-winning singer of traditional Mexican banda, Lupillo Rivera, will perform. There will be a large selection of food available during the event, including Tacos El Primo, Ron's BBQ, Valley Fusion Sushi, and 760Teppanyaki.
