Ramabai Ambedkar was such a symbol of sacrifice and sacrifice, on whose strength Dr. Ambedkar saved the deprived sections of the country. With the help of his wife Ramabai, Bhimrao Ambedkar became a great man. Babasaheb Bhimrao loved his wife Rama deeply. Even in extreme poverty, Ramabai managed the family with great satisfaction and patience. In every difficult time, he gave courage to Babasaheb.
Ramabai Ambedkar was born on 7 February 1898 in a poor family in Vanand village, Maharashtra. His childhood name was Rami. At the same time, father's name was Bhiku Dhutre (Vanandkar) and mother's name was Rukmani. His father used to do Kuligiri, due to which the family was very difficult to raise.
After the parents died at a young age, Rami and siblings came to Mumbai with all the uncles and uncles. These people lived in Byculla's chawl in Mumbai. In the year 1906, he was married to Bhamrao Ambedkar. At the time of marriage, his age was only 9 years and Bhimrao's age was 14 years. With the efforts of her husband, Rama also learned to read and write a little bit.
Bhimrao Ambedkar used to call Rama as 'Ramu' and Ramabai used to call Bhimrao as 'Sahib'. During Bhimrao's stay in America, Ramabai spent a painful day. He had to face financial difficulties but he did not allow Baba Saheb to be aware of it at all.
Babasaheb went to England for studies for the second time. Before going to England, he had given money to Ramabai to run a family, but the amount was so low that those rupees were spent very quickly. At that time, due to lack of money, Ramabai used to live and sell the dumplings. He never worried about wealth while driving home for limited expenses.
By the year 1924, Baba Saheb and Ramabai had five children. But Babasaheb and Ramabai saw their four children dying before their eyes due to lack. Seeing the death of four children, what more could be the time of great sorrow.
His son Gangadhar died at the age of two and a half. Then a son named Ramesh died. A daughter named Indu also passed away as a child. After this, even the youngest son Rajaratan was no more. Only his eldest son Yashwant Rao survived. All four of his children died due to lack.
After the death of son Gangadhar, there was no money to buy new clothes to cover his dead body. Then Ramabai tore the piece from her sari and then the body was draped and taken to the crematorium and buried.
Rama always used to think that the husband's work should not be hindered in any way. This woman was an idol of satisfaction, support and tolerance. Bhimrao Ambedkar always lived outside the house. He would always give his earnings in the hands of Rama and demand as much as needed. After running the house, Ramabai used to save some money from it.
He always respected Babasaheb's love for books and perseverance for the salvation of the society. Ramabai was also involved in Bhimrao Ambedkar's social movements. The people of Dalit society used to call Ramabai as ‘Isaheb’ and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar as ‘Babasaheb’.
Both Ramabai and Babasaheb were lucky. Because Rama also found his life partner very good and simple, Babasaheb also got a good and obedient life partner like Ramabai. How important Ramabai was in Bhimrao's life, it is shown by some lines in the book written by him.
In the year 1940, Dr. Ambedkar presented a book titled 'Thoughts of Pakistan' to his wife. In which it was written that "I am giving a dream of praise to Ramo, to show tolerance and consent to the sattvic, mental, virtuous, virtuous purity of my heart and to suffer with me, in the days of absence and trouble, when I had no assistant…!" "
Ramabai was a very virtuous and religious woman. He had a great desire to visit the famous temple of Vitthal-Rukmani in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. But then untouchables were not allowed to enter Hindu temples. Bhimrao would always explain to Ramabai that, where he is not allowed to go inside, going to such temples cannot be salvation.
But sometimes Rama insisted on going there. After much stubbornness, Babasaheb took him to Pandharpur. But being untouchable, he was not allowed to enter and had to return without visiting Vithoba.
The fame of Babasaheb spreading all around and the grandeur of Rajgriha also could not improve the health of Ramabai. She was always worried about her husband's busyness and safety even in ill condition. In such a situation, she used to take full care of Bhimrao.
Ramabai's health was always bad. Babasaheb took him to Dharwad but the situation did not improve. Babasaheb was always depressed in the sorrow of the illness of his wife on one side and the death of four children on the other. On May 27, 1935, due to Ramabai's death, Dr. Ambedkar's mountain of sorrows broke.
On the death of his wife, he wept bitterly like children. More than 10 thousand people took part in Ramabai's Parinirvana. With the death of Ramabai, Babasaheb was so shocked that he got his hair shaved. After the death of his wife, he started feeling very sad and always sad.
He had a problem that the life partner who was struggling with him in the time of sorrows, now when the time of happiness came, he got separated forever. Babasaheb, wearing saffron clothes, began to behave like sadhus for home sacrifice.
