In the Indian freedom struggle, there have been many heroes who have walked shoulder to shoulder with the brave freedom fighters. One of them was a heroine, Gulab Kaur. She can be considered as the most important woman in the freedom movement as she united the Indian diaspora abroad and prepared to join the freedom movement in the country. She used to appeal to the people to return to their homeland and join the freedom struggle, let me tell you an anecdote from her.
There were daily meetings of overseas Indians in Hong Kong in which the leaders of the Ghadar Party would give speeches and appeal to join the freedom struggle. After the speeches, a woman would rise up, reciting the lines of Ghadar's echoing poem in a melodious and warm voice. These speeches and poems would create such a wave of patriotism that people could not remain untouched by it and started registering their names to revolt against the British rule. Seeing someone in a dilemma, the same woman would take off the bangles on her left hand and say, "If anyone who comes for the freedom of his country backs away from this opportunity, then wear these bangles and sit down. We women will fight in their place." This speech would have filled the Indians with double enthusiasm.
When her husband refused to join the movement, Gulab Kaur chose patriotism and left her husband and left for the freedom movement of the country. She was very bold and courageous and cleverly often dodged the police. This would have saved her from arrest and also saved the members of her party. Eventually one day Bibi Gulab Kaur was arrested by the police. He was charged with treason and sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment. He was put in the jail of Lahore. In jail too, he again raised his voice for justice along with other prisoners. This enraged the jail officials. They were treated inhumanely and subjected to many tortures.
He faced many troubles from time to time and suffered tortures. If she wanted, she could lead a comfortable life with her husband. But for the interest of the country, he considered it necessary for the people to unite and contribute in it. They did not think what I would do as a single woman, where would I go, how would I live, did not think about my selfishness for the benefit of the country, faced every problem firmly and brought revolution.
