If she wanted, staying in Singapore could pursue her career in the field of medicine. There he started treating poor Indians and laborers by setting up medical camps to serve them. During this time she once met Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and joined the Azad Hind Fauj.
While living in the Azad Hind Fauj, shoulder to shoulder with Subhash Chandra Bose, Lakshmi Sehgal did many commendable works. He got the responsibility to motivate women to join the army and enlist them in the army. Lakshmi fulfilled this responsibility very well. At a time when women were not considered good to leave their homes, they created an army of 500 women, the first of its kind in Asia to be a women's wing.
Under her leadership, Azad Hind Fauj's women's Battalion Rani Laxmibai Regiment took the front from the British at many places and told the British that the women of the country could face the enemies by taking up guns if needed.
