If the head goes, then go Lord, do not go to my religion, whose life was a fast. A man who sacrificed everything for the cause of freedom and social service. He was the first and last person in India to be awarded the honorific title of Mahamana. He dedicated his life in journalism, advocacy, social reform, mother tongue and service of Mother India. This was Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.
In the era of British imperialism, Mahamana worked for social justice and equality. He opposed the evils like untouchability, illiteracy and child marriage. He not only opposed the orthodox traditions of the society but also tried to remove them throughout his life. It was the effect of his simple and gentle nature that he became the most popular personality of that era.
He popularized the slogan of 'Satyamev Jayate' and laid the foundation of Banaras Hindu University so that the common Indian could also get better education. His move lit the torch of revolution in education.
When the British government sentenced about 170 people to death in the Chauri-Chora case, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya defended that case and saved about 151 people. His ability was also praised by the British government. He played an important role in the non-cooperation movement, opposition to the Simon Commission with Lala Lajpat Rai, the Salt Satyagraha and the Civil Disobedience Movement. Malviya ji first represented the country in the Round Table Conference and later devoted his whole life in social service.
