The fight for freedom, the fight against the oppression and exploitation of the British, the fight to save our motherland and the people living on it; It was not running in a few selected areas of India but was running in the whole country. The free air we are breathing today was not achieved through struggles of a day or two, but it has taken hundreds of years and lakhs of fighters have given their lives.
One such heroic warrior in this freedom struggle was Velu Thampi, the minister of Travankot princely state of South India, who had said 150 years before the independence of the country, "If we do not oppose the British company, then our subjects will suffer unbearable sufferings." have to face."
In 1805, the British removed the Raja of Travankot from the throne and captured Travankot. Seeing his king and kingdom in danger, Velu Thampi took up arms against the British rule. Under his leadership, thousands of people started revolt against the British government. Due to this armed rebellion, the British had to retreat from Travankot and Travankot became independent.
During this, Velu Thampi sought help from countries like America, France against the atrocities of the British. He sought help from the states around him but no one paid any attention to it. But Velu Thampi did not give up. He fought alone, thrashing the British.
Thampi never loses if he is not betrayed by the neighboring state minister Paliath Achan. As a result of Paliath Achan's deceit, the British army captured deep inside Travancore in 1809. Seeing the British moving forward, Velu Thampi, the leader of the Travancore rebellion, considered it better to commit suicide than surrender himself to the British and gave up his life for the country.
