The Whale Brendan Fraser becomes overwhelmed and  sheds tears.

After making a comeback to the industry following personal challenges, actor Brendan Fraser received a six-minute standing ovation on Sunday night at the Venice Film Festival. Fraser was present for the world premiere of The Whale, a film in which he stars as Charlie, an English teacher who rekindles his relationship with his adolescent daughter.

Fraser was about to leave the stage when the audience and performers with him started applauding. He appeared to be crying after hearing the reply.

Fraser had breakout roles in George of the Jungle (1997) and The Mummy (1999). He continued to star in sequels The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).

Fraser, who was a prominent leading man in the 90s and early 2000s, said in 2018 that he had been grabbed by former Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk, and believes that the aftermath from that incident left him all but banned for over a decade. Fraser has progressively gained employment since that disclosure, including parts in Steven Soderbergh's No Sudden Move and the abandoned Batgirl movie (which is a whole other thing). If the clapping in Italy is any indicator, Fraser’s comeback has been an undeniable triumph.

Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) has Tweeted: "Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan. He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky." Fraser reportedly wore a prosthetic outfit to play Charlie, and during the weekend at the film festival, he discussed the difficulties of the part with reporters, including the need to "learn how to move in a different way."

According to IMDB, Fraser has a number of upcoming parts, including one in Brothers with Glenn Close and Peter Dinklage, one in the Martin Scorsese-directed Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, and one in the upcoming drama Behind the Curtain of Night.
