khujjuttra

Khujjuttara was a woman of a low caste, for whom it was the duty of hard labor to make a living in the then society. Her name was Uttara, but she was called Khujjuttara because of her being Khujju (hunchbacked). She lived in the service of Shyamavati, the wife of King Udayan of Kaushambi and used to work as a maidservant. The queen used to bring flowers of eight Karshapanas from him daily. Khujjuttra herself used to keep four Karshapans from theft and bought flowers of four Karshapanas and took them to her mistress, Queen Shyama.

One day Khujjuttra was going to buy flowers for the queen. On the way, he saw in the cool shade of a beautiful dense tree near the grove that the brilliant shramana, like a god, was preaching with his merry voice; And all the people were listening to that sermon with jhoom. She also went near and stood up. She found the sermon to be somewhat peaceful, so she too sat aside and listened to it. There was Kalyani speech, patience was a serious tone, there was an atmosphere like heaven. He was saying- "Housepatis! When a person recognizes the misconduct and finds out its root cause. Recognizes good conduct and knows its real reason, then his vision becomes right. That's why self-supervision is preferable, this is the secret of right vision.

Khujjuttara heard it, he felt a novelty and joy. She went to collect flowers while contemplating his auspicious sermon. She understood that she is behaving like a theft even in a trivial fleeting life. Is stealing justified? His mistress trusts him and she is treating them with ungratefulness. Khujjuttra's mind was filled with anguish as he pondered. What will happen then ? said his mind. Khujjuttara made a firm determination, seeing the crime that had happened, would tell her mistress in time and would follow the teachings of Lord Tathagata in future.

According to his determination, Khujjuttra bought eight flowers of Karshapan and gave them to his mistress. For some days, Queen Shyamavati remained silent. One day he asked - "Khujjuttara! Earlier you used to bring few flowers, how have you started bringing more than a few days? It was exam time for Khujjuttra. She always listened to the teachings of God and tried to follow them. So she stood firm on the truth, did not hide anything from her mistress and said, "Mistress! Excuse me . Earlier I used to keep four Karshapans from theft. One day I heard the auspicious sermon of the Lord and understood the crime of keeping my four Karshapanas from theft. Since then I have brought eight Karshapana flowers for you. ,

The wise queen Shyamavati, listening to the maidservant, thought that how beneficial would be her teachings to a foolish maid whose teachings had changed so much. He asked the maid all the teachings that she had heard. His reverence for Lord Tathagata increased. He freed Khujjuttra from the post of maidservant and gave her a place among the royal women. From that day the task of Khujjuttra was to listen to the teachings of the Lord and to recite it to Queen Shyamavati and her friends and servants. Following the teachings, Queen Shyamavati had a great longing for the darshan of Lord Tathagata, but seeing no way to go near his feet, she used to worship him in her heart after seeing him from the window (window) and credited this virtue to Khujjuttra. Used to give

Slowly Khujjuttara started moving towards Dhamma Marg. She used to remember the teachings she heard and tried her best to follow it. In this way he completed Buddhashasana. She started living like a sacrificing bhikkhuni. In the shelter of the Triratna, he found an unparalleled happiness. Still, he did not accept the kashaya, throughout his life he continued to do some work for his mistress, Queen Shyamavati. She also thought that due to the generosity of the swami, she got the pride of hearing and seeing God's auspicious sermons and continued to do so. Therefore he fulfilled his duty towards Queen Shyama.

The Mahakarunik God, pleased with his sadhana, virtue and duty, blessed him by declaring him the best among the Bahushruta worshippers. Khujjuttara was blessed, who listened to the teachings of the Lord and, after reforming life according to them, realized the Dharma. Despite being a woman of a neglected caste, she got a high status. He has seen the knowledge given by Shasta in his life.
