Many such people contributed to the independence of the country, who sacrificed everything for the interest of the country. But there were many such people who did not have comforts, lived in the forests, but had full of passion for the country. He had little money and resources, but he did not give up. Whatever resources were available to him, he made full use of them and took steps for the benefit of his country and its people. Some of them were also forest dwellers. The forest dwellers love freedom and they cannot be held in any bondage. It was these forest dwellers who first fought against the British oppressors from the forests itself. One such great revolutionary was Alluti Sitaram Raju. He was given revolutionary values from his childhood.

Sitaram Raju used to fight guerrillas and used to hide in the mountains. In the hills spread near the Godavari river, Raju and his companions used to practice warfare and make strategies for attacking the British. The British officers continued to beat Raju. Disturbed by this, the British government entrusted the Andhra Police to arrest Raju, but it failed. After this the British government deployed the Malabar Police squad of Kerala to nab Raju. Taju had several encounters with the Malabar Police Force, but the police had to face defeat every time.

Raju is best remembered for leading the Rampa Rebellion against the British, in which he organized the tribal people of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts to revolt against the British. The Rampa Rebellion was started in protest against the confiscation of forest use rights from the tribal population. Raju and his men attacked several police stations and killed several British officers and stole arms and ammunition for their fight. People honored him with the name Manyam 'Veerudu', which means 'hero of the forests'.

The English police were so afraid of his name that when they were caught, this great revolutionary was shot dead after being tied to a tree on the bank of the river. It was his courage and love for the country that always scared the police.
