Bhogeshwari Phuknani

Patriotism and patriotism have no age. Patriots have that spirit in their mind, with which they fight the biggest battles for the honor of their country and the people of the country. One such battle was fought by the revolutionary lady of Assam, Bhogeshwari Phuknani.

Despite being 70 years old, Bhogeshwari Phuknani led a rebellion against the British during the Quit India Movement in Assam. He not only formed an organization of women in his town but also encouraged women to come out of the boundaries of the house and join the movement.

Bhogeshwari Phuknani had so much courage even after being so old that she led the women's team and attacked an office sealed by the police and captured it.

Once upon seeing the crowd gathering on the day of Vijayadashami, the police suddenly came and started raining sticks on the crowd. On hearing this news, Bhogeshwari Devi, leading the women of her town, reached in front of the police with the tricolor in her hand.

The British officer, seeing the furious crowd, ordered to shoot. Bhogeshwari Devi, showing bravery, pounced and attacked the British officer with the stick of the flag. Angry after this attack, that officer riddled Bhogeshwari Devi with bullets and that great heroine became Veergati in 1942.
