He is counted among the famous revolutionaries of India. Taraknath Das was a very talented student. During his student days, he came in contact with leaders like Aurobindo Ghosh, Surendranath Banerjee and Chittaranjan Das. Taraknath Das joined the revolutionary movement after coming in contact with these leaders, painted in the color of patriotism and became a revolutionary soldier of the country. Due to his involvement in revolutionary activities, he left his studies in the middle.
He started taking active part in the works of 'Anushilan Samiti' and 'Yugantar Party' to join the freedom struggle. But soon the British police followed them. After being chased by the police, Taraknath went to Japan and then to America in 1905 disguised as a monk. Here he started publishing a newspaper called 'Free Hindustan' to acquaint the world with the atrocities being committed by the British in India. Through his revolutionary articles written in the newspaper, Taraknath Das worked to connect Indians living abroad with the freedom movement and with the help he received, started helping in the ongoing revolutionary activities for India's independence. He also played an important role in organizing the Ghadar Party.
During that difficult period when there were neither better means of transport nor means of communication, during that time he traveled to many countries of Europe to promote revolutionary activities in India. Along with this, he also did the work of transporting arms from Germany to India to help his agitating comrades. When he went back to America, the government there came to know about his revolutionary activities. For this he was arrested and sent to jail for 22 months.
