Dhammadinna - Life History

About two and a half thousand years ago, Dhammadinna was born in the Vaishya clan of Rajagriha. She was a beautiful, intelligent, smart and intelligent girl. She grew up by being pampered. Her parents married her with a prosperous Shresthi (Seth) named Visakha. Husband and wife started leading a very happy life. There was a lot of love in the couple. Both loved each other very much.

One day Visakha went to see Lord Buddha. There he heard the sermon of the Lord. Hearing this, he lost his mind. He became detached from form, word, smell, taste and touch. He understood that where all these are there, there is only craving and where there is craving, there is misery. Visakha returned home with a serious vision. As usual his wife Dhammadinna greeted him with a laugh. But Visakh did not react and did not say anything to his wife's show of love. He sat on one side in a serious posture. Dhammadinna got worried. In worry, she asked her husband -

"What's the matter lord, have I committed any crime? You're not even talking to me. ,

"Dhammadinna! You are not guilty . How can a gentle and chaste woman like you commit a crime?

"Then why are you so serious today, why are you so sad. You don't even have that everyday smile on your face. Is there any financial problem?"

"No, Dhammadinna! There is no such thing. I have come to know about the absurdity of the pleasures of the senses by listening to the teachings of Lord Buddha. From today onwards I will not touch the female body nor will I indulge in food cravings. Now If you want, then you can stay in this house, otherwise go to your parents. I have resolved to become a Pravrajit (Sanyasin).

" Owner ! It's just that. It is a matter of happiness and pride that you should adopt Pravrajya, adopting the benevolent Dhamma of Tathagata Lord Buddha. ,

Vishakh was surprised to hear the words of his wife. He started praising Dhammadinna in his heart. He was feeling proud of his wife.

Dhammadinna said again, "Master! Will you be alone on this elevated path of Dhamma? Won't you take me with you? ,

"Dhammadinna! The life of a promiscuous person is very painful, it is painful. Sometimes even food and accommodation are not available. He is deprived of all the necessities of the happiness of life. You will not be able to bear those sufferings. ,

Dhammadinna laughed and said, “When I have lived a happy life with my husband at home, now I will happily live a lewd life in the Bhikkhuni Sangha. I also want to improve my future life and put an end to suffering. “Vishakha and Dhammadinna both walked calmly towards Venuvan. Upon reaching there they prayed to the Lord, “Mahakarunik Tathagata Samyaksambuddha, make us your refuge by granting us Pravrajya.”

Accepting his prayer, God granted him Pravrajya. Now Vishakha and Dhammadinna started taking the education of Dhamma by living separately in Bhikkhusangh and Bhikkhuni Sangha respectively.

Dhammadinna used to do Vipassana meditation by staying in a secluded and uninhabited place. He attained Nirvana by attaining wisdom and proficiency in meditation.
