A woman hoists the Indian National Congress flag at a ground in Mumbai to strengthen the foundations of the freedom struggle during the Quit India Movement, exhilarating youth across the country. The country finally gets freedom from this movement. After the completion of her studies, she became a teacher and teaching job at Gokhale Memorial College and later became a freedom fighter. This famous freedom fighter was Aruna Asaf Ali.
During the Salt Satyagraha in 1930, Aruna addressed public meetings, took out processions. The British government arrested him and imprisoned him for a year. After the Gandhi-Irwin Pact, all the political prisoners were released, but not for Aruna, there was a mass movement for them and the British government had to bow down. After 2 years, he was arrested again and kept in jail. Aruna went on a hunger strike to protest against the ill-treatment being meted out to the prisoners in the jail. This brought great relief to the prisoners.
When the 'British Quit India' resolution was passed, the next day all the big leaders involved in the freedom struggle were arrested. Then Aruna took the initiative to handle the movement by hoisting the flag in Mumbai. She was the leading woman to openly challenge the foreign government by organizing a protest meeting in Mumbai soon after the arrest of Gandhiji and other leaders. Then secretly guided the agitators who were out of jail. She roamed all over the country, but kept making people aware by avoiding the eyes of the police.
The British government confiscated his property and sold it. The government announced a reward of Rs 5000 for their capture. Even today the women of our country are not socially and politically empowered in remote areas. Think, at that time, in the face of adversity, Aruna Asaf Ali sacrificed her life for the country by standing shoulder to shoulder with the freedom fighters for Mother India.
