Kanaklata Barua

Kanaklata Barua was such a martyr daughter of India who is included in the long line of Indian heroines due to her sacrifice. Just seventeen-year-old Kanaklata may have been younger than other sacrificing heroines, but her stature in sacrifice and sacrifice is not less than anyone. Kanaklata was five years old when her mother passed away. When she turned 13, her father also passed away. Now Kanaklata is left all alone in this world. When she was seven years old, there was a meeting of revolutionaries in a nearby village which was organized by the school children. Along with her maternal uncle also went there to Kanaklata and since then the flame of revolution was born in her child.

After the British Quit India Resolution was passed, the movement against British rule spread to every corner of the country. Top leaders of Assam were caught and put in jail as soon as they returned from Mumbai. In a secret meeting, it was decided to hoist the tricolor flag at the court of Tezpur. This place was Gahpur's Thana, 82 miles away from Tezpur. Kanaklata also started walking towards her destination. Kanaklata was a member of the self-sacrificing group. Kanaklata was leading the procession holding the tricolor flag in both hands. The leaders of the procession suspected that Kanaklata and her companions might not run away. Sensing the doubt, Kanaklata roared like a lioness - don't make the mistake of mistaking us young girls as weak. The soul is immortal. Only the body is perishable. So why should we be afraid of anyone? Freedom is our birthright, "will or die" as she marched towards the police station, tearing the sky with slogans.

The in-charge of the police station stood in front to interrupt the procession. Kanaklata told him, "Don't block our way. We have not come to fight with you. We have come to light the flame of freedom by hoisting the tricolor at the police station. After that we will go back." The in-charge of the police station said to Kanaklata, "If you guys move even an inch, you will be shot by bullets."
Despite this, Kanaklata went ahead and said, "The flame of our freedom cannot be extinguished. You can fire bullets, but you cannot divert us from duty." Saying this as she moved forward, the police opened fire on the procession. . Kanaklata took the first bullet on her chest.

Kanaklata fell on being shot, but the tricolor in her hands did not bow. Seeing their courage and sacrifice, the enthusiasm of the youth increased even more. Taking the tricolor from Kanaklata's hand, the valiant young men marched forward, keeping their chest in front of the bullets. They fell one after the other, but neither let the flag bow nor let it fall. He was handed one after the other and in the end Rampati Rajkhowa hoisted the flag at the police station. The soldier who fired at Kanaklata was filled with regret that I had killed a 17-year-old revolutionary of his own country. He became so upset that he committed suicide by jumping into the well.
